It all started with Molly Josephine - (Tinker's Pops a Cork, JE). Molly-Jo came to us in 1999 after we fell in love with her in one visit. Molly was our first Scottie and stole both our hearts from day one.
That day - a fall day if I recall - we went looking for a Scottie and met Molly. After much research into the various Terriers, Charlie had decided that the Scottish Terrier was for us - but she was thinking a black maley. After some discussion - we decided to "think about it" for a bit and left. Not far down the road - we realized our mistake, turned around and went right back to get her.
Molly was pure Scottie, independent and strong willed - but with a heart that became evident to Bob whenever Charlie left as Molly would sit by that door waiting for 'mom' to come home. Little did we know that day the path we would follow - with a home full of Scotties and a life largely directed by our involvement with dogs - leading to a today when we have an Earthdog site at our home and our vacations tend to revolve around dog events. Molly-Jo traveled with us extensively throughout the US and Canada and made friends wherever she went (as long as they were not Dalmatians - she seemed to have a thing against Dalmatians). Molly even had her own column in the STCGD newsletter - "Ask Mrs. Mops" (Mops was yet another fond nickname for Molly).
Molly was participating in STCA health trust fund research into elevated liver enzymes - a condition seen in many Scotties - but that condition was not serious. On Saturday December 30, 2006, Molly started acting poorly. The next day she was eating and acting her normal 'demanding' self. On Jan 1, she was poorly and we took her directly to the CSU vet emergency clinic where they were unable to stabilize her. Investigation revealed that Molly had a large growth, probably cancerous, on her heart. This was interfering with her circulation and eventually started to bleed. Molly essentially died of internal bleeding. Not a day goes by when Charlie and I don't think of or miss this little dog who now resides in our hearts and under the apple tree in the front yard. Still, we feel so blessed by Molly, our other Scotties and the great friendships we gained as a result of her time with us her. Molly was and is a blessing to us and we thank the Lord for the time we had with her.
